FEMaLe partner from University of Edinburgh organized a webinar “Endometriosis: the painful truth – Curious”.

  • Fiona Stalker, interviewer, endometriosis patient and journalist
  • Professor Philippa Saunders FRSE, FMedSci, Professor of Reproductive Steroids, University of Edinburgh
  • Professor Andrew Horne FRSE, FRCOG, Professor of Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences, University of Edinburgh

Here are some highlights from the discussion:

Q: What causes endo?

A1: If we knew that we’d be much further on!
A2: It’s complicated… overlapping symptoms with other conditions and a lack of general awareness of the disease are not helping

Q: Why does endometriosis take so long to diagnose?

A1: Lack of awareness, misinformation and a normalization that the pain is normal
A2: If there were simple tests, it would be a very different story. Currently, a diagnosis requires difficult technically complex surgery.

Q: What is the future of endometriosis?

A1: Non-invasive blood test.
A2: Properly individualized treatment.
A3: Young women and any pain in the pelvic region to be taken seriously.
A4: We want to partner up with patients because they know their bodies best!
